Though the Contax N is really the lil’ Contax 645, the Contax NX isn’t much different aside from the build.
While it is a heavy lens, the focusing ring is silky smooth, and the lens is a real pleasure to use. The Contax NX is a camera that could arguably be called the lil’ Contax 645.
Even though this is a macho lens, it still fits nicely in a camera bag compartment, especially with the lens hood removed. The Nikon bodies tested (D800 and D810) appear to be able to drive the larger Contax 645 lens focus motor more effectively and without the focus hunting that the Contax body produced. Still, if I am travelling and can only bring along one wide angle lens, I usually go for the 25/2.8 so I can get a more extreme wide-angle effect than the 35mm's 62 degrees. AF performance of the Contax 645 lenses using the Nikon bodies is a night and day experience over that of the Contax body.

I like the 35/1.4 for walking around photography, especially in cities in late afternoon or twilight where I am film ISO limited, can't use a tripod, and want a bit more depth of field than is is provided by a 50mm standard lens. The focal length of 35mm on the Contax 645 camera is approximately equivalent to a 21mm lens in the 35mm format. The Contax 645 is an autofocus 645-format single-lens reflex camera with interchangeable lenses, viewfinders, and film backs. Contax also offered the Distagon T* 35mm f/2.8 (MM) which only weighs 245g, less than half the weight of the f/1.4 lens, and which is much more practical for general applications if you need 35mm. You certainly would not want to carry around this 600g lens unless you really need the maximum f/1.4 aperture.
It works great as part of a low light prime lens combination, together with the Planar T* 50mm f1.4 (MM) and the Planar T* 85mm f/1.4 (MM). A Contax 645 and the 80mm f/2 lens is all any portrait photographer could ever really need. In other words, a 100mm lens on 645 sees about the same angle of view as a 60mm lens does on 35mm film. The Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/1.4 (MM) is an amazing precision work of metal and glass. 645 film (56 x 41.5mm) has 2.6 times the area of full-frame 35mm (36 x 24mm), or a 0.62075x crop factor.
